Colonel Maximo M M Ng'andwe, GCDS, DFS - Board Chairman
Col Ng'andwe is a retired professional military officer who served in the Zambia Army for over 15 years up to 1982. He was awarded the 'Zambia Defence Force Star' (DFS) for meritorious and distinguished military service by the Republican President. A Fellow of the International Institute of Management and Member of the Zambia Institute of Directors, Col Ng'andwe has been a senior business executive involved in a wide range of commercial, industrial and agricultural activities in the Southern African region for over 30 years. Between 1992 and 2005 he played a very active role in Local Governance at national and global levels ranging from serving as Mayor of Kabwe (1992-94) and President of Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) and rising to President of the African Union of Local Authorities and ultimately President of the global International Union of Local Authorities between 1997 and 2001. Appointed Honorary Member of LGAZ and awarded the honour of 'Grand Commander of Distinguished Service' - First Division (GCDS) by the Republican President. He is currently the Executive Chairman of Atlantic Lime Products (Z) Ltd and the Amaka Holdings Ltd Group of companies as well as Managing Director of Multipack Enterprises Ltd

C.V. Suresh non Executive Director
With a degree in Mining Engineering from one of the premier Engineering Institutes in India, he has had the unique experience of working for about 13 years in the largest underground copper mine and about 10 years in the largest opencast iron ore mine in India. He has been working for over 7 years in the world's largest open pit emerald mine, in Zambia, under the Gemfields' banner. He has specialized in organizing, implementing and monitoring of all project activities in large mines - Project Execution, Administration, Production, and Safety. Mr. C.V Suresh is currently responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring complete operations of all the projects in Zambia under the Gemfields' banner, the foremost amongst which is Kagem and Kariba Mining. He has devoted over 30 years of his life to mining, both open pit and underground. Mining has been not just the career of his life but his passion.

Cyrille Djankoff Executive Director
Cyrille Djankoff has a Bachelor’s of engineering in computer science and is gemmology graduate of the ING in Paris. He has over 25 years of experience in gemstone mining and marketing, from precious to ornamental stones. He has participated in a number of business ventures in Mozambique, Brazil, and Tajikistan. He is also Head of the Fine Gemstones division within Gemfields PLC. Mr. Djankoff is a French national.




Samuel Sinkamba
Finance Manager, is in charge of all of the company’s accounting and administrative functions. He joined KML in 2012, and has over 15 years of experience in accounting. A graduate of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA), Fellow of ACCA and ZICA

Achala Chakrapani
Head of Operation and in charge of the Amethyst production. With more than 17 years in the mining industry, he has a great deal of experience in large open pit heavily mechanised operations in India, Bangladesh and DRC. His experience range from Lafarge Cement and Madras Cement to Rubamin and Chemaf. Mr.Chakrapani holds a Mining Engineering degree from Andhra University in India.



The company employs 225 permanent workers. Four of these are in senior management and six are in middle management.

The staff is very skilled in the amethyst production process. Management’s immediate professional development objective for the staff is to provide training in equipment maintenance and gemmology, especially at supervisory levels. This measure will go a long way toward improving quality control.
